Exhibition African Violets and Other Gesnerias. Tallinn 2014 May 15- 18, 2014. Tallinn Botanic Garden. African Violets and Other Gesnerias exibition . The variety of Saintpaulias flowering in spring is incredibly large. The common name for these plants is African violet, although saintpaulias do not belong to the same family as true Violets. The family Gesneriaceae consists of 2900 species and 139 genera. These include trees, shrubs, herbs, lianas, and epiphytes. Next to saintpaulias the most well-known examples include Sinningia, Codonanth,e Cupid's Bower, Lipstick plant, Cape Primrose Flame violets, Goldfish plant Chirita and others. The exhibition is organised in collaboration with private collectors. At weekends rear species of Saintpaulia are sold along with the soil and special fertilizers fit for them. At the exhibition the visitors may consult specialist about growing house plants. |
